A 650-nanometer (nm) laser produces lines of light in an omnidirectional pattern to scan barcodes at different angles. Motion tolerance helps limit errors while scanning and allows the user to scan objects while moving. The barcode reader contains a 624 MHz processor to decode barcodes.
Engineered with breakthrough digital imaging technology, this scanner family delivers extremely fast and accurate data capture of 1D and 2D barcodes, images and direct part marks (DPM), and supports Item Unique Identification (IUID).Wireless Bluetooth capability allows the barcode reader to connect wirelessly to a computer or another host system (sold separately) to transmit barcode data. The USB interface can also be used to connect the barcode reader to the host system.
The DS3578 Series is available in a number of models to meet diverse data capture needs, including a standard version, a high-density version and a version supporting Direct Part Marks (DPM), IUID support and image.The barcode reader's housing is sealed to protect against water and dust. The scan window is recessed to help shield it from scratches and impacts. Up to seven Motorola barcode readers can be paired with a single charging cradle (additional barcode readers and cradle sold separately).

It can withstand drops of up to 6.5' on a concrete floor. The barcode reader is suitable for use with Motorola 123Scan and Remote Scanner Management (RSM) software (available separately for download).
