AKG MB3 Boundary Layer Microphone Description
The MB3 microphone is a suitable microphone for theatres, conferences, meeting rooms, and security applications from AKG. The boundary layer microphone features a supercardioid polar pattern that offers high gain before feedback and offers PCC (Phase Coherent Cardioid) technology for optimum speech intelligibility. Designed in a miniature design, the microphone supports flush mount installation. The microphone provides an LED indicator for a clear microphone on/off notification. It also supports low-Z balanced microphone-level output that prevents hum and high-frequency loss. The MB3 offers versatile mount options that enable you to easily install the microphone into tabletops, walls, and ceilings for fixed applications. For the power requirement, the microphone requires 12-48V phantom power and at the bottom of the microphone, there is a 3-pin XLR output connector which serves as a tubular power module.
Supercardioid Polar Pattern
The MB3 microphone features a supercardioid polar pattern that enables extreme directionality. With its null point and a back lobe of sensitivity of 22 mV/Pa, it is most responsive to the on-axis audio that the microphone points to. Due to its strong directionality, it is widely used in theatres, conferences, meeting rooms, and security applications. Thanks to the nature of the supercardioid polar pattern, it helps to capture the focused sound of an instrument or voice and offers high gain before feedback. The narrow-angle of its sensitivity helps to minimise the bleed from other sounds on a busy stage.
PCC® (Phase Coherent Cardioid®) Technology
The PCC (Phase Coherent Cardioid®)technology integrated into the MB3 microphone allows for optimum speech intelligibility. This enhances the microphone's performance, range, and reliability, making it suitable for theatrical and performance capturing. Its increased sensitivity of 22 mV/Pa provides accurate signal reproduction, with an audio frequency bandwidth of 50 Hz to 15 kHz, tailored to give minimal low-frequency noise and rumble.
Miniature Design
With a low-profile miniature design, the microphone—which can be mounted easily into tabletops, walls, and ceilings, for fixed applications—virtually disappears when installed. The featured LED indicator indicates a clear microphone on/off notification, enabling participants in the application room to be aware of the microphone’s status.
