WHY WE CHOSE THIS SCANNER 

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 is not your regular flatbed or ADF scanner. It is a contactless scanner, that stands upright and can scan delicate documents and 3D dimensions objects. It includes of a thin mat marked with various paper sizes, and a scanner that stands upright over it.

Measuring 8.3” x 15.1” x 6.1” with a weight of 6.61 lb, the SV600 scanner resembles a small desk lamp and takes up less desk space. The head of the scanner contains rotating optics to capture images and scans to email, printer, and mobile. Let’s see why it’s part of our list.

Resolution and Format: At 285dpi, the resolution is quite low but depending on the mode it can produce an interpolated resolution up to 1200dpi. Doing a black and white is at 150dpi while a monochrome scan is at 300dpi. The available file formats it can save to includes image PDF, JEPG, Microsoft word, excel & PowerPoint, searchable pdf but no Tiff. In addition, you can connect via USB only to a PC with Windows or Mac OS. 

Built-in Software: SV600 comes bundled with ScanSnap Manager, ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap, Card minder and ScanSnap Receipt. With the software flattening pictures and removing glare is possible. Documents can also be saved into a cloud service and access through a cloud service application. With this scanner you can scan documents of different sizes with the multiple scanning detection.

Other notable features about the SV600 are page turning detection, multi document scanning. It also has an image flattening software for flattening the curvature of a scanned book page.

POINTS TO CONSIDER

Here are some things we wish it had;

SV600 scanner actual resolution is 285dpi, which is quite low. With this resolution, scanning artworks will make your scans come out grainy. So, let’s put it like this.  If you want to capture documents in scans, then this is your scanner but if you want more high-quality scans with vivid colors, then you might have to look for another scanner.

Another point is that unlike conventional scanners with led, it doesn’t touch the document, so it cannot flatten the edges of curved books when scanning.

Finally, since it doesn’t have any lid, scanned images get exposed to too much light.   The best option is to use it in a low-light condition to avoid washed out images.

Verdict; The Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 is a unique scanner for scanning 3D objects as well as delicate documents like maps, historical documents usually found in the library, without risk of damaging the documents.
