Internal Motherboard rtc clock bios battery that provides the voltage to the bios to maintain the notebook date and time sequence. Replacement should be required when the notebook has lost it's ability to record date and time, prompting a error at boot and when the existing battery is no longer charging to a nominal 3 volt level. Replacement of any popular brand and made is acceptable, yet should be tested prior to install.
