Audio-Technica BP898 Subminiature Cardioid Lavalier Microphone Description

The BP898 is a subminiature cardioid lavalier microphone from Audio-Technica designed for cH-style Audio-Technica transmitters. This microphone offers maximum intelligibility and clean, accurate reproduction for vocalists, lecturers, stage & television talents, and worship leaders, to handle speech/vocals up to 140 dB SPL. The microphone features a cardioid capsule that provides directional pickup with a pronounced proximity effect at close range that enhances the user’s voice. A low-profile design, 5.3 mm in diameter, ensures minimum visibility. The microphone’s cable is made of a robust urethane elastomer with a double-spiral shield wire that provides ultimate flexibility and strength while resisting abrasion and moisture. Being RoHS compliant, the microphone comes with a durable cable with metal housing, in a rugged metal structure to shield the electronic circuitry from external electromagnetic noise. The BP898 microphone requires plug-in or phantom power and a phantom power module with an XLR connector. It includes a 360° lapel clip and two windscreens, each featuring a clasp that secures the windscreen to the microphone, preventing it from blowing off in critical situations.

Natural Speech Reproduction with Cardioid

The microphone capsule of the BP898 microphone provides accurate and intelligible reproduction of speech and vocals for vocalists, lecturers, stage and television talent, and worship leaders. It can handle speech input levels up to 140 dB SPL without distortion. The cardioid polar pattern has a directionality pick up of audio, which has a pronounced proximity effect when used at close range, enhancing the user's voice. This low-frequency enhancement drops off when the microphone is used at a distance. The microphone works at a greater distance or a less focused pickup when desired.

Low-Profile Design with Flexible Cable

The BP898's subminiature low profile enables the microphone to be used on stage or camera while remaining inconspicuous. Its robust urethane elastomer cable with a double-spiral shield wire resists abrasion and moisture and provides strength and flexibility. The signal line of the cable is made of a high-durability CuSn (copper and tin) alloy that greatly enhances corrosion resistance and increases longevity.

Compatible Transmitters and Equipment

The BP898 Audio-Technica microphone works with Audio-Technica transmitters, it is equipped with a cH-style 4-pin Hirose connector, including the 3000 Series (4th generation), 5000 Series (3rd generation), 6000 Series, and future systems. This configuration of the BP898 also includes the AT8545 power module, which adapts the microphone to connect to standard 3-pin XLR connections and allows it to operate on 11 to 52V phantom power—great for connecting to mixers and PA systems.
