The Ubiquiti EdgeMAX EdgeRouter 12 features 1 GB DDR3 RAM and 4 GB eMMC on-board flash storage. These storages provide ample memory for running the EdgeOS operating system, handling various network tasks, and storing configuration files and system data. For ample networking, the EdgeRouter 12 comes with 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 2 SFP ports and a Serial console port. Network Segmentation

Thanks to its powerful EdgeOS and flexible configuration options, the Ubiquiti EdgeMAX EdgeRouter 12 divides the network into smaller subnetworks, or VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks). Each VLAN is a separate broadcast domain, thereby devices within a VLAN can communicate but not with devices in other VLANs.  This isolation helps protect sensitive data and prevents unauthorised access.

Load Balancing

Load balancing is a technique that distributes network or application traffic across multiple servers. The Ubiquiti EdgeMAX EdgeRouter 12 uses a load-balancing algorithm to distribute traffic across available WAN interfaces. This algorithm can be configured based on various factors such as bandwidth, latency, and packet loss. By distributing traffic across multiple WAN connections, the EdgeRouter 12 offers increased overall throughput and reduced latency. If one WAN connection fails, traffic can be automatically redirected to other available connections, thereby minimising downtime.

VPN Protocols

The EdgeRouter 12 supports a variety of VPN protocols to cater to different security and performance needs including IPsec, Route-based (VTI) VPN, Policy-based VPN, L2TP/IPsec, and OpenVPN. These protocols allow granular control over traffic flow and offer flexibility in configuration and simpler configuration for basic site-to-site connections. The EdgeRouter 12 also runs EdgeOS, which provides a robust platform for configuring VPNs and supports both Site-to-Site and Remote Access VPN connections.
